Erik van der Linde's picture
Erik van der Linde
Industry Director
Erik van der Linde obtained a Masters Degree in mechanical engineering and is registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA. He started his career at Mittal in maintenance and then moved to steam production. He furthered his career at the PBMR project where he performed thermo-hydraulic analyses and also functioned as the system engineer on heat exchanger and turbo machine systems. During 2010 he joined Carab Tekniva as Engineering Manager and headed up the Technical Centre. In September 2015 Erik took over the reins of CarabTekniva from Dirk van Aarde. He still enjoys doing detail design work and will always remain a curious engineer at heart.

Heinrich Stander
Manager: Plant Performance Centre
Heinrich obtained a B.Eng in Mechanical engineering at the NWU. He initially specialised in the fields of thermal-fluids, process engineering and theoretical modelling. Heinrich has spent the bulk of his career to date in the nuclear power design and nuclear research environments where he was responsible to oversee mechanical- and safety engineering analyses, and reactor engineering respectively. At the beginning of 2013 he joined Carab Tekniva as a senior engineer where he worked extensively in the coal power industry and currently heads up the company's plant performance centre. Heinrich is still an analyst at heart and enjoys the challenges of changing environments and innovation.

Pieter Coetzer
Technical Centre Manager
Pieter holds a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MBL and is registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA. He has gained wide experience in a number of companies and across different industries, including Production, Engineering- and Management Consulting, Mining, Standards, Certification and Testing, and Nuclear Energy. He has served in a number of senior leadership positions gaining vast general- and engineering management experience, as well sound experience in project management, system engineering and integration. He joined Carab Tekniva as Technical Centre Manager in 2015 heading up the Engineering function as well as driving the mining strategy in the company. He still enjoys getting his hands dirty and getting involved on the operational side of engineering.

Asset Integrity Management and Reliability Specialist
Riaan Bester is a qualified mechanical engineer with a GCC and a certified maintenance and reliability professional (CMRP). He started his career at Sasol and during his 21 years at the company held managerial positions in maintenance, production, commissioning, projects and reliability. During 2007 he started his consultation career in the fields of asset integrity management and reliability. He assisted industry in the development of asset maintenance plans, auditing, training and coaching. He currently heads up the Asset Integrity Management and Reliability Department of CarabTekniva.

Rudi Smit
Manager: Plant Care and Integration
Rudi obtained a B.Eng (Hons) in Electronic engineering at the University of Pretoria. During his career of more than 15 years with a power utility, he gained in-depth experience in the Operating, Maintenance, Engineering and Project Management fields. The majority of his management career was spent leading the Project and Outage management departments overseeing major capital and maintenance type projects. He joined Carab Tekniva in 2013 and is currently managing large contracts in the Boiler Specialist Services area of the company. His management style is customer focused and what he enjoys most is to see what people can achieve when they work together.

Research, Development & Innovation Manager
Cobus obtained a B.Sc Honours Degree in Computer Science at the University of Pretoria. Cobus started his career at the Agriculture Research Council as a developer where he downsized various mainframe systems which were sold internationally. He joined “Denel Informatics” as Senior Developer and later joined BHIS (a division of IBM) as GIS developer and specialist. In 2003 Cobus joined “Computer Foundation” as Corporate Architect and development team leader coordinator on all corporate standards and development initiatives in Water Affairs. During this period, Cobus was an integral part of the development and set-up of a metadata system for a 35 Terabyte GIS database, based on the ISO 9001 standards. In 2008 Cobus joined a dynamic, result driven company called “Carab Technologies”. As IT manager and software architect, he leads the IT department in the development and enhancement of all IT systems. In 2015 the IT department was renamed to RDI (Research, Development and Innovation) to better describe the daily work and responsibilities.

Building, Inspection & Infrastructure Manager
Munyaradzi Machemedze holds a Master of Science Degree in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management (MScMSOM) and a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) and is a registered Project Management Professional (PMP) with PMI. He gained wide experience in design & draughting, manufacturing and operation of steam plant equipment such as boilers, pressure vessels, storage vessels, ducting, conveyors etc. while working for Cochrane Engineering, Zimbabwe. His experience was boosted when he joined ArcelorMittal South Africa, Vanderbijlpark Works in 2008 as a Project Manager responsible for infrastructure maintenance projects that included 40MW, 30MW, 7MW and 3.5MW power plants among other infrastructure projects. He joined Bureau Veritas SA (Pty) Ltd in June 2010 to assume the position of Project Manager (Quality) responsible of the 2 new Eskom Power Station construction projects (Medupi & Kusile).
Sjoeb Du Plessis's picture

Sjoeb started his career at Ford Motor Company South Africa in 2002. In 2003 he joined CarabTekniva. He holds degrees in BCom (Law) and BCom (Logistics) and has gained a wide range of exposure which includes operational planning, team management and product development. He previously served as one of four directors of CarabTekniva for a four-year period in which he gained valuable experience. He currently heads up the Operations Department whilst overseeing the Business Administration, Infrastructure planning, Fleet management, BBBEE/EE/SDF, Human Resources and Recruitment & Staff Wellbeing. He enjoys being part of the growth and support of employees and feels that they are the most valuable assets.
